  "Deaimon : Recipe for Happiness" follows Itsuka & Nagomu working at Ryokushou, a Wagashi (sweet) shop and as the Anime progresses, you start to see the character relationships, their struggles and their resolutions for said problems, via sweets aka "Wagashi". A quick debunk of the title gives away what the show really is about.
  Deai (出会い) means "new encounter" or "to meet someone new", mon (もん) as an abbreviation of mono (もの) means "thing", but Deaimon (であいもん) means "various seasonal food".
  So in each episode, you meet a new character, or new encounter between already introduced characters which intertwines with different sweets it shows in each episode. This Anime shows, while not in-detail the sweet making process in Ryokushou and how these chanced encounters will find a meaning each sweet conveys.

  

  The story is just like any light-hearted Iyasheiki Anime and the character troubles are just as small and relatable too. One of my favorite moments from the show is;
  when 'child Nagomu' gets some mean comments from his classmates after he said he'll work in Ryokushou (in a sweet shop, as a sweets maker). And for this, his teacher says this one line;
  
  The show's slow & delicate approach to drama allows it to give a sense of maturity in these moments where they deliver a simple yet effective message.

  Summary

  A calm setting with rural accents, polished art style to beautiful backgrounds & character designs, with a tickling like comedy that just makes you laugh a bit and a cast of characters that have a child-like energy with a slightly mature undertone;

  This **Recipe for Happiness**, is probably the sweetest Anime of the season. The review mostly ends here.

  Here on out, I'm gonna talk about;

  My favorite things from the show

  Since it only does what's enough, there isn't much more for me to talk about writing quality or others related. So, let's get into it.

  • The Opening & The Ending

  Opening song Sumire by Maaya Sakamoto and Ending song Koko ni Yaru Yakusoku by "ayaho × Junichi Soga", both songs fit perfectly well & create the perfect mood to watch the show, and are well arranged with the calm visuals.

  • Itsuka

  *NO! She isn't some cat girl*.

  I know many people are gonna crown Anya as their "Cutest Girl" of the season, but many are missing out on Itsuka too. Her saying "I'm Home" always brings a sense of joy and I gotta give props to Kozue Yuuki for that nice & sweet "Tadaima!".

  • Art Style & Backgrounds

  

  You should've noticed by now how beautiful it looks. If you're in the mood for a slow show to let the daily exhaustion out, then I definitely recommend this.

  What is the recipe for happiness?

  I'll be honest, going into this anime I had mix feeling about it. Nothing honestly to do with the anime itself it's just more with what I scared it might become. Let me explain quickly what I was worried that it might become...

  Now if you don't know what that means basically to sum it up... it's an grooming manga. While the anime just treats it more as a wholesome father and daughter relationship that is built overtime through hardship and trails. It's a good show, I'm not hating on it. So yeah if you were wondering if it was going to be an grooming anime, don't worry, it isn't. So that's out of the way let's get back to talking about the anime that we're here for.

  Characters:
  Nagomu
  Honestly majority of the time I would've find him unbearable and not someone I wanted to watch for more then a few episodes. Because usually I find that type of character to get annoying fast. But the one thing about him that I do respect a lot is that he is a really genuine character. Despite his lacking in confidence and not really knowing where to go in life, he isn't someone who just gives up but always striving forward even if he's unsure of himself. I can at least respect him for that.
  What came off a dumb character at first slowly became someone I respect at least. Sure he's not going to be among my favorite or memorable characters, but someone I can at least say, he's a kind person.

  

  Itsuka
  No matter how mature sometimes she tries to be, despite seeing more mature than Nagomu at times, she is still at the end of the day a child. We sometimes will try to be this person that we believe will make us more adult but in reality we're still just a child and it's okay to be afraid. It's okay to be unsure. It's okay to want and long for a place to belong. Since at the end of the day, no matter how old you get, you still feel those way. And we are all always searching for a place to belong.

  

  Side Characters
  For the most part, I enjoyed majority of them, I can't say all of them are great or memorable. But these two are fun for sure, I enjoyed them.

  So to sum up my thoughts for the anime

  OP and ED were awesome
  If I was honest, this is probably one of my favorite opening of Spring.

  What is the main theme and what is the answer to the question of what is the recipe of happiness?

  

  There are a few things I can say about this

  There is....

  the family we're given
  the family we make
  the family we choose

  And this anime captures each one in a unique way. Where we see the son returning home. The child who was abandon by her parents but finding a new home. Or the work place we work at. Sure you can say is work really family? Well the way I see it, if you work long enough you soon will realized you spend so much time with these people they become like family. Given you might hate some of your coworkers lol... but we're talking about more of the good coworkers

  I really enjoyed it, I thought it was sweet and wholesome. A really good watch for those who just want something more slow and calm. It's not gonna have moments that probably be memorable in the long run. But for what it presented, it's one of those that just peaceful.

  My favorite comfort anime

  7:15pm 10/3/2025, Today i finished watching Deaimon. Its been nearly almost half a year since I've watched Anime, since its been getting too boring for and the joy i used to have from watching it, felt like its already gone. One day i was just bored from playing games all day inside my room, since i couldnt go outside because of a typhoon, so i decided to give anime another chance to see if that joy and fun i've lost months ago would come back again. Sadly, that type of joy didnt come back, but something else new made its way into me.

  After watching hundreds of animes Ive discovered something new about myself. I started watching anime from shounen and made its way from seinin to romance. I've watched mostly all of the good romance and shounens that my standards have been too high. I couldnt bare to watch an anime that goes below my standards, as my standards has been set to high from watching goated animes. Because of that its one of the reasons why i've lost my fun and joy, thought i dont regret it as it made me watch and find more underated but really good animes.
  This time i decided to give another type of anime that ive barely watched before. I saw some reviews of Deaimon from the internet, and knew it was about a guy who left his band to take over his family's business and to take care a child that was abandoned. Though i didnt like the father and daughter type genre, i gave it a try, and it didnt disappoint me. Prolly one of the best Comfort animes ive ever watched (my favorite now). At first i didnt try to skip any parts since i really wanted to try to enjoy it.

  But after watching it i kept getting hooked little by little. Though it looked kinda slow for me while watching it but it didn't have any boring parts to make me wanna skip it (except for some obvious dialouges). Some parts just wanted me to keep watching it to see what happens in the next episode. Like Nagomu and his Ex, like will they come back together? or something like that, my inner romance anime watcher self was literally cheering for them. I also wanted to see Itsuka to call nagamou "dad" and that last episode of her birthday didn't dissapoint though it wasnt as the one i had in mind, but it works out. Peak ending and hopefully creates a season 2.

  Thanks to Deaimon I've started to have hope that there will be more other anime like this one that will give my joy of watching anime back. I really liked the character development of every character in this anime, though its not that big but you could see their developments even if its just small. I like how Nagomu is so straightforward with his feelings and acts very childish. Though he seems immature sometimes, he's still considerate of other people's feelings and takes care of them even in just a small way. He has a golden heart that would bring joy to everyone around him. I also love the way he acts from a stranger from the start to a loving dad who can't stop thinking about his child. He's always helping everyone when they're in need, even if its done by secret he does everything he can to help them. I love how hes such a big green flag, by keeping his promises and having a golden heart.

  Lastly i also want to talk about Itsuka. She started of like a stubborn child, but after knowing her being abandoned by her father with no reasons, i started to understand her little by little just like Nagomu. She isnt very open with her feelings but with her new father, shell start to open up her feelings little by little.
  9/10 overall
