DESCRIPTION
The fourth season of Overlord.
E-Rantel, the capital city of the newly established Sorcerer Kingdom, suffers from a dire shortage of goods. Once a prosperous city known for its trade, it now faces a crisis due to its caution—or even fear—of its king, Ainz Ooal Gown. To make amends, Ainz sends Albedo to the city as a diplomatic envoy.
Meanwhile, the cardinals of the Slane Theocracy discuss how to retaliate against Ainz after his attack crippled the Re-Estize Kingdom's army, plotting for the Baharuth Empire to take over the Sorcerer Kingdom. However, when Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El Nix arranges a meeting with the Theocracy's messengers at a colosseum, he is confronted by none other than Ainz himself.
With their secret gathering now out in the open, the emperor and his guests learn that Ainz has challenged the Warrior King, the empire's greatest fighter, to a duel. With Ainz's motivations beyond his comprehension, Jircniv can do nothing but watch as humanity's future changes before his very eyes.

55/100Relatively Dull DominationContinue on AniListFans and haters of Overlord all know that Ainz is probably one of the most overpowered isekai protagonists out there. In this season, that is no exception. This series follows a similar formula throughout its run, and that formula is “People underestimate Ainz, and then get slaughtered”. This time around, the characters are actually somewhat catching on that, yes, Ainz is nearly unbeatable, so maybe we should work with him instead. To me, I think that the change in formula made the series a bit boring, but there were also quite a few other issues that presented themselves in this season.
My grading criteria: Story: /25 Art: /10 Music: /10 Characters: /20 Enjoyment /15 Thematic Execution /20
STORY: 11.2/25
The story isn’t by any means messy, it’s just that I struggled to care about the plot this season. In the previous seasons, we saw a whole lot more emphasis on side characters and their developments, which was great. From the Lizardmen arc in Season 2, to the Two Leaders arc with Enri and Nphirea in Season 3, say what you will about the arcs, but personally, they just felt way more impactful than whatever what shown in this season. This season focused a lot on Ainz taking over kingdoms and empires, for his goal of destroying the Re-Estize kingdom. There were a lot of political strifes and discussions sprinkled throughout as well, but it felt so insignificant. The jump from arc to arc felt very self-contained and not connected enough, which really lowered the significance of Ainz’s opposition throughout the series. Sure, there are some plot twists, and some rather satisfying and shocking moments, but I didn’t take much away from the plot this season compared to the other three seasons.
ART: 7/10
This show still looks a tad mediocre, but the CGI was slightly less prevalent, although clearly present. Not as jarring, but not the best still.
MUSIC: 8.4/10
The one thing that Overlord has kept consistent throughout the years was its music. The OP and ED were pretty solid once again, and worth listening to over and over.
CHARACTERS: 10/20
The characters from Nazarick never really intrigued me a whole lot, and with the focus being on them a bit more this season, it felt much more boring to me. Ainz is still the same as over, though he seemed more cold this season, Albedo is still her same fun self, Aura and Mare are still powerful, overall just much of the same. One key difference which felt a bit shocking to me was how “childish” Shalltear felt in this season. At some points, she felt like a newcomer learning the ropes of how the Nazarick group functioned, which was kind of weird. It was great to see Pandora’s Actor getting a chance to shine this season though.
Once again, I found the side characters and opposition of Nazarick more interesting, from Jircniv, Zanac, and many more, it’s always fun to see the futile schemes of Ainz’s opposition.
ENJOYMENT: 9.5/15
There were some exciting moments, but a lot of it was boring, which was unfortunate.
THEMATIC EXECUTION: 9/20
A key element in Overlord is how they execute Ainz’s supremacy over every other group in the world, and this time around, it felt really flat. The deaths that Ainz caused felt too quick and easy, and lacking in intrigue. Didn’t really feel for anyone, since the characters weren’t exactly developed very well.
OVERALL: 55.1/100
It’s always fun to watch the futile struggles of Ainz’s opposition, but I wished they focused on the opposition more to be honest. We know how powerful Ainz is, so I’m ok with him getting less screen time. The side characters are in my opinion what makes this show more compelling, and I felt considerably more bored of this season than any other. The movie will be coming out later on, so I’ll be sure to give that a watch when it comes out.

75/100The franchise I enjoy not because of the anime but those channels that talks about skip contentsContinue on AniListSo Overlord, the franchise I enjoy not because of the anime but those channels that talks about skip the contents of the anime.
For a very long time, I really want to watch isekai quartet. I had already watched Tanya, re-zero, and konosuba but never touch or interested in overlord before. That's the reason why I started overlord 4 months ago. The first time I watched the first half of Overlord s1 (around 1 month before season 4), I was underwhelmed and always wonder why it got highly praised despite being just ok. I watched the rest of s1 and half of s2 (especially the lizardman part) with basically no enjoyment. While I'm ready to give up on this series, I stumble upon these bizarre amounts of Overlord skip-content videos and realize how ridiculous the amount of content and context that was being skipped+rearranged in the anime. These missing lore, character development, and skipped content type videos are the ones that make me end up rewatching and finishing the entire 3 seasons. So yeah, the anime was basically a not-so-good representation of the lore and series in general but I still appreciate it.
So back to the present day and s4 was basically the same.
ART: The animation was ok, sometimes it was 5/10 sometimes it was 7/10. The CG wasn't as bad as 3rd season's "sheep" and definitely watchable.
STORY:
Story-wise, it's still pretty good. I definitely miss that time when ainz still moving around as momon and doing so much more stuff actively rather than just sitting down, while relying on his comrades or his feared influential existence. On the other hand, it was good seeing that he was finally able to trust and utilize his comrades actively/efficiently.The negative part about the story was still pretty much the same as the last 3 seasons. it lacks so much freakin context as usual. Every time I finish 1 episode I will end up searching for these skipped content videos or waiting for AniNews or Espiritu (both are anitubers) to make one. Not mentioned, there was a huge chunk of context missing in the middle of seasons making some anime watchers confused. (The missing part will be adapted as a movie. the holy kingdom arc)
MUSIC:
The OP was a banger. The rest, I can't comment on it. I had almost no braincell for music. Music was basically just beeps and boops for me.That's basically the end of my reviews. Sorry if it was a bit messy cause it was the first time I write reviews. Also, I prefer to tell stories rather than structured reviews. The show was overall enjoyable and I will definitely try to read the LN if I have any time. I still have to swallow around 15 volumes of Ascendance of Bookworm so it might take a while lol.

100/100Deep storytelling continues to get even betterContinue on AniListOverlord is an award winning work. It is now recognised as a classic in the animation and light novel worlds winning many writing awards . The number of animes Overlord not only inspired in every genre but became popular due to the inspiration is enormous.
It has to be in the hundred thousand. This season alone, there are at least two animes inspired by it.
Let me make this clear, noboby watches Overlord for action or fights. What is great about Overlord is that It gets better every season which is rare. It's not the only show like this but usually the majority of shows gets worse over time.
Overlord does not become stale because of two reasons. First, the characters. The characters make a show. You can have the most beautiful animation in the world but with trash characters, the show is still trash. Overlord has a lot of characters which means the variety of interactions keep it from getting boring. Also, the characters are independent from the main character.
A thing I hate about a show is how everything revolves around the main character. Thankfully , Overlord doesn't have this problem. Each character in Overlord continues to exist without Ainz. There are a lot of characters doing things without Ainz 's knowledge.
There was a world and people before Ainz came. Even his guardians which are created to be slaves show signs of disloyalty from time to time and goes against his orders.
Each season, new characters appear and they are perfectly implemented in the story. Another thing is the recuring characters grow and get character development. Ainz from season 4 is completely different from season 1.
Second, The unpredictability due to the worldbuilding. Overlord is top three animes with the most named characters and each character is important to the plot so the worldbuilding is insane. Overlord is so deep that the author introduces new things constantly.
PDL got introduced two seasons ago and it's right now we are getting to the meat of his character. Antilene got introduced in season 2 but it's in season 5 that she will appear again. A powersuit got introduced this season which seems out of nowhere but got foreshadowed seasons ago. Maruyama does this a lot. He introduces things in chapter 1 that he is going to reuse in chapter 1000.
Overlord's world is so big that the ending will not be a true ending. It's impossible for Maruyama to finish all the plot points unless he continues to write for another decade. The ending will be an open ending because he can not end Overlord. It's too complex with too many characters and too many plot points.
Also, The author uses Ainz in the story as an unreliable narrator. This kind of writing is tricky because it can be confusing if not done well. Not many authors can use an unreliable narrator well.
Ainz is lying to us throughout the story. Ainz is so well written some people still believe Ainz is a villain because of the system or because of Nazarick, lmao.
Poor Ainz, he is so pitiful because he is influenced by the system. He lost his humanity. He has to do evil because of the guardians, lmao. If Ainz wants to do good, Nazarick will do good. The guardians love him and are very loyal. Ainz is aware of this. This shows the genius of Maruyama. He made some people sympathize with Ainz.
Another thing I love about Overlord is how unpredictable it is. Finally, a show with thoughts put into It. There are plot twists on top of another plot twists. If you seriously tell me you predicted all things that happened in season 4 and all other seasons, I will call absolutely bullshit.
Overlord is one of the most unpredictable shows of all time. There are characters acting behind the scenes and characters nobody knew existed. How can you even guess their moves ? Ainz himself has plans he doesn't reveal till he starts them. You never know what he is going to do
One of Ainz's struggles is he can not let go of the past. He still searching for friendship, for a fairytale. The guardians on the contrary can move forward but they are still bound by the past. They can not forget that their creators abandoned them. This creates this toxic or wholesome relationship, it depends on how you see it, between Ainz and the guardians. They are heavily dependent on each other.
