An ancient girl, a modern times boy, brought together by fate
Recently, after reading manga and only manga for a fairly long time (actually, for my whole weeb career), I've finally started my Manhua Arc. Today I want to tell you about the first Manhua I've stumbled upon, and why you should also give it a try and read it yourself.

Description

Wo Jia Laopo Lai Zi Yiqian Nian Qian, which, for simplicity purposes, I'll simply call My Wife Is From a Thousand Years Ago is a story about a female martial warrior from the chinese Tang Dynasty, Jiang He, who suddendly finds herself in transported in a city in China in modern times. Alone and clueless on how to navigate this new world she's found herself in, Jiang He finds her way to Xu Quing's apartment building, and eventually to his door, where he, after figuring out her true identity, takes her in to teach her about the modern time's world and how to live in it on her own.

That's the premise for this manhua. A fairly unique one too, if I can say so myself, as usually it's the modern day person that gets transported into another world in this type of story, not the other way around. I would know, I've seen my fair bunch of isekais ;)

The drawing style for this manhua is really good too, with really well detailed, large shots of characters in poetic scenes and chibi, cute drawings of facial expressions in comedic scenes both. Overall, the style the artist went for is on point and really well executed.

The chapters are fairly long, averaging around 15 pages per chapter. What's better is, because the manhua is drawn in a webtoon, vertical format, you won't even notice the pages changing. You'll just keep on scrolling, getting more and more invested in this cute, yet at times deep, story of these two polar opposite characters.

When I say deep it's not just a random adjective, I really do mean it. The author really makes you think about Jiang He's perspective a lot. She lost everyone she knew and loved in an instant and is now in a world that she knows nothing about. This way of seeing the story really makes you feel bad for her, and helps you get more invested in this new life that she's found herself in.

Thoughts

Personally, I find this manhua really enjoyable. It's not a masterpiece or anything, actually it's far from it, but I still get a big ol' smile on my face when a new chapter comes out, which is actually fairly ofteb. The best way I could describe this manhua is exactly Really Enjoyable.

Other than that, I also found the genre choice interesting. It's, if you'll allow me the term, a Reverse Isekai, a genre I had never explored before, as I think it's fairly niche.

All in all, this manhua is really good in my book, and I'd give it a solid 8.5 out of 10.

Truly never a dull moment
Woah! 456 chapters of romance?! Is. . . is this real? Are my eyes deceiving me?

I don't know about any of you, but I've rarely read any romances surpassing 200 chapters, never mind 456.

Nevertheless, this series is truly, truly worth the read.

The premise isn't like anything else we've seen. Jiang He, the female lead, is a woman from ancient China. She gets transported to the apartment complex of Xu Qing, our male lead. They interact, words get thrown, swords get withdrawn, tv's break, the whole nine yards. Things happen after and Jiang He ends up living with our goat.

The characters in the series are what make it so special in the hearts of readers. Jiang He is your typical tsundere, and Xu Qing is a sly fox. He fools her a lot, and if she finds out, he gets a beating of his life. Up until chapter ~350, the story was mainly about their daily exchanges.

Now, you may be thinking. 350 chapters of two character's daily interactions? That couldn't p-p-p-possibly be interesting! You fool me not!

I say to that: relax. Somehow, someway, Jiang He's foolishness and immaturity (at times) is just so fun to read. You really feel like you're with them in their small apartment.

There are also some notable side characters, Wangxi, Haozi, and Ping Ping (hopefully I remembered their names) that add to the story. And we can never forget Winter melon! (Their cat, if anyone is curious.)

The series never delves into any super sad moments. Obviously, there are some heart-warming but kinda sad scenes. But it never really lasts. The series also doesn't believe in annoying second love interests, harems, or blatant fan service, so if any one of those tropes annoy you, fret not, you won't find them here.

Then as Jiang He and Xu Qing grow old and marry (yes, slight spoiler, sorry. Though it's a romance, so marriage isn't really something unexpected. Don't castrate me.) readers began (at least, myself) thinking that the story was going to end. Sigh, that's how most finish.

Nope! You're wrong!

They begin introducing babies to the world. Yes! Miniature Xu Qing and Jiang He! A wonderful mix, if I do say so myself.

The children take on the best from their parents and go on to find their own journey's. And we still get a good chunk of chapters revolving around their family life! Like me, you'd feel as though you're their third parent, since you've spent so much time with Jiang He and Xu Qing through it all.

So heartwarming.

The ending was something that felt earned, rather than rushed. All the storylines were given their rightful endings. All the characters were left (mostly) happy.

Jiang He is a grandmother now!

Anyways, it was sad seeing it end, but also inevitable. I hope you enjoyed my review and will go on to enjoy My Wife is From 1000 Years Ago just like I did.
