DESCRIPTION
Lysithea Hilenaire Del Arman is a woman on the run. After a dangerous revolt claimed the lives of her family, Lysithea employs the broker, Taron Cardis, to help her escape the kingdom before she meets the same deadly fate. But Taron isn’t exactly the easiest man to work with, and the two spend most of their transactional relationship with plenty of bickering and arguing. That is, until an unexpected snowstorm leaves them stranded in an eerie, abandoned mansion. Now, Lysithea and Taron must put their differences aside to survive the cold and continue their escape.

*From the Penguin Random House publication's cover for Volume 3.*Introduction & Format ―
A two-season manhwa adapting a webnovel.
Winter Wolf is a manhwa adaptation of a webnovel of the same name (link) by RubyChe (루비체). I'm not very familiar with webtoon formatting and release schedules, but to my understanding, the first half (Season 1) is a direct adaptation of the aforementioned webnovel. The latter half (Season 2) is original to the manhwa. According to other readers, Season 2 is fanservice for fans of the original novel.
I can't help but wonder, what am I doing reviewing a "smut" manhwa? And rating it such a high score? Anyways...
*The setting, the female lead, and the male lead.*Plot & Characters ―
An ex-noblewoman and an enigmatic broker are stuck together in an eerie mansion.
The female protagonist, Lysithea Hilenaire Del Arman, is a red-haired ex-aristocrat on the run. The male protagonist and titular "Winter Wolf", Taron Cardis, is a mysterious, muscular broker hired by Lysithea to help her escape the country.
The primary setting of Season 1 is an eerie, abandoned mansion filled with many secrets. The two leads are snowed in, unable to escape for the time being, forcing them to grow closer—at least sexually. The atmosphere of Season 1 is what drew me into this story. This manhwa excels at creating suspense and tension and leverages the setting to its advantage.
Issues:
This section contains minor Season 1 spoilers.
From the cover and genre alone, you can tell that Lysithea and Taron will end up together, at least for a while. Taron is initially cold to Lysithea, but soon approaches her sexually. The turnaround of Taron's character feels jarring. He's attractive, though, so I guess it's okay? :/The first time they have sex has dubious consent. Meanwhile, just a two episodes ago, Lysithea has a nightmare, reliving the trauma of an attempted sexual assault. Lysithea seems relatively more reciprocative in subsequent scenes.
One major issue causes many readers to drop this manhwa: Lysithea is constantly a naive damsel in distress. She can be a dummy, but I find her lack of "street-smarts" to be somewhat excusable because of her noble upbringing.
Thoughts on the Ending:
This section briefly describes Season 2. My opinion on the ending is included, but the ending is not spoiled.
The ending is a bit abrupt but still feel-good. As I previously mentioned, Season 2 drastically pivots in tone and even genre. It becomes a more wholesome historical romance rather than suspenseful mystery. I even found myself rooting for the two leads, despite my misgivings while reading the first season.
*Art highlights from the first two chapters.*Art & Adult Scenes ―
Beautiful art, with less of an emphasis on sexual content.
The art is one of the main attractions of this manhwa. It starts off good, then gets better as it continues.
Lysithea is said to be a beautiful noble, and the art backs that claim up. Look at the way her hair is drawn! How is it so perfect?
Character proportions remain relatively balanced, except for sex scenes.
Taron's penis is comically huge. Ow. Maybe the censorship fog makes it look bigger?
There are some panels with very obvious 3D-rendered objects or backgrounds. The Season 1 mansion is primarily 3D, but this isn't too obvious, considering you will only be looking at most panels for a couple seconds each.
*Wow, what delicious polygons!
This panel is the most jarring usage of 3D rendering in the manhwa.*Adult Content:
Full nudity and adult scenes are only included in the R18+/Mature version. Genitals remain censored. The scenes are not too drawn out or crazy—they're relatively vanilla, except for what I mentioned in the Issues section. By the end of the manhwa, adult scenes felt sparse and spread out. The bulk of the sexual content is in Season 1.
I originally read the first 15 chapters for the R15 version by accident. (I intended to read the mature version.) Comparing the two versions, there isn't too much of a difference except more of an emphasis on the leads' growing sexual relationship in the R18 version.
This manhwa, although it contains adult content, is plot-heavy and does not solely focus on sexual gratification for the reader, but the adult scenes can be a plus if you're into it. This doesn't have anywhere near the same level of adult content as a hentai doujin.

Final Thoughts & My Recommendation ―
It has been about ten days since I finished reading this manhwa. I like to take some time to let my opinion sit in before putting together a review, but without my notes, I would probably have little recollection of what happened in this story.
Season 1 and the art are definitely the best parts of this manhwa. Season 1's restricted setting is largely its benefit. Season 2 was still enjoyable but lacking in story direction.
I wouldn't declare this manhwa to be my favorite, and the story and characters have issues. It isn't terribly unique, but its good execution for an adult manhwa does stand out to me. [I wouldn't put my rating on par with my similar ratings of non-adult manga.]()
I showed a scene to my boyfriend, and he liked it, so maybe this could appeal a bit to a male audience?
┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌ Lysithea def a baddie. However, this manhwa is clearly geared toward straight women based on Taron's anti-hero persona, overbearing sexual dominance, and drawn proportions.
Give it a try if you like historical romance and drama with a dash of spice!
