HeartbreakRebel
85/100Lots of Build Up for a Devious CliffhangerContinue on AniListMy Review of "Kaiju No. 8 Season 2"!
The ending of Kaiju No. 8 S2 was both hype but also frustrating.
____Since this is a sequel, I will skip the usual story and characters section and dive straight into The Good, The Bad, and The Downright Ugly.____ ____The Good____ This season of Kaiju No 8 elevated the drama and cranked the action up to 11. There was definitely a more serious tone put into this season compared to the first as more problems arose. There were a couple of shocking moments in this season and watching a lot of Kafka’s friends grow stronger and stronger was nice to see as the focus of the story shifted to not just focus on Kafka’s struggles with Kaiju No. 8 and Kaiju No. 9, but also his friends’ own struggles and character development. Once again, Kaiju No. 8 does a spectacular job producing catchy and fitting tracks for their OP and ED, having AURORA perform a dramatic OP and OneRepublic return to create another catchy and more slowed down ED. I think this season’s purpose was to be a transition period between last season and hopefully next season where things will turn from a fun, somewhat comedic show to a much more serious and action-packed anime.

____The Bad____ I think that the pacing of this season could’ve been improved on. There were certain points of the story where I thought that “this battle’s going on for too long” or “this moment felt too short and needs to be expanded on.” I just needed more time to marinate and truly understand the weight and impact of certain scenes compared to others. There definitely weren't as many comedic moments in this season compared to season one because of the serious tones and scenarios this time around, which is kind of disappointing, but not too bad. What really pissed me off was the ending. You’re telling me that this show builds up all these characters and this entire storyline just for the final episode to end on a cliffhanger where we don’t get to see the final event or most of the events for the “final” battle? That’s just bad pacing on their behalf in my opinion. Maybe if this show had 12 episodes instead of 11 like the first season, they would’ve been able to show something for the final fight but alas, we got nothing.

____The Downright Ugly____ That ending was frustrating, but not downright ugly.

____Is It Worth The Watch?____ Don’t watch Kaiju No.8 Season 2 before Season 3 comes out, trust me. With how this season ended, it’ll leave you hanging on your seat, waiting for at least a year for the results to show. When season 3 releases, this season will probably be worth the watch but as of right now, just hold on to your seatbelts just a little longer.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. If you enjoyed this review, I would greatly appreciate a follow too! ^^

83/100Spoiler-free Review of Kaijuu n8 S2: The training arc.Continue on AniList════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Considerations ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ ● This is a spoiler-free review. ● 80+ in my rating means really good. ● I've added one of the anime soundtracks(OP) to the sound section. If you wish, scroll down, start it, and use it as your background music while you read. ● This is a review for the second season. My focus is to explain if this season is worth watching for those who have seen the first one. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Story ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The story in this season acts to do two things: raise the stakes in terms of enemies, and provide a training arc that will validate the events of the upcoming third season. Overall the story is good; you feel the motivation of the characters and how hard they want to destroy the kaijuus. The big downside of a season that is so focused on preparation for what's to come is that it ends on a giant cliffhanger. If you're someone who doesn't like that, my advice is to wait until the next season is closer to release. That way you can have a better, more complete experience without a long wait. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Art ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ As a mainstream anime, the art is really good. The kaijuu designs, once again, are off the chart. They are so different, and especially in this season, there are kaijuus that don't resemble any previous encounters and look very close to alien-enemies.
Animation-wise, it's incredible. I've read the manga and was somewhat concerned about how they would deliver the same impact of certain static shots in the animated version, but they did it. All the moments I clearly recalled from the manga, I enjoyed watching in the anime.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
Characters
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
Since this is the second season, you already know most of the characters. Some extra characters appear or get more screen time, but it's nothing too crazy. It's a similar experience to what the first season delivered.
The established cast does a good job of carrying the training arc narrative. Their personalities and goals are the foundation on which this season's slower, more preparatory story is successfully built.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
Soundtrack
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
The soundtrack is good. It does deliver when it needs to, raising the tension and immersing you in the moment. I'd say that in this aspect, it's slightly lower quality in terms of the opening and ending when compared to Season 1. While the first season's opening and ending are in my personal playlist, I don't think I would add this season's to it.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
Conclusion
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
If you're like me, you skip everything and read only the conclusion because you don't want to get spoiled with other themes. So I will try to be brief on this point:
Watch it.You should watch this season if you're okay with the cliffhanger and the story being slow-paced at times to set up future events. If you can't handle that well, just wait until the new season is closer, then watch it. Regardless, the season is well done, and I personally can't wait for what's to come.
