  Don’t let the title decieve you, this anime is pure wholesomeness.

  
  Honestly when I first stumbled upon this anime, I saw the title and I thought it seemed cringe and stupid so I was like yeah..pass. However, recently I was in the mood for something romantic to watch and I randomly saw some cute clips from this and I thought, whatever, why not. Turns out this show was a very pleasant surprise!
  
  I'll start by introducing the story and why the title is misleading. The anime starts with our main heroine, Marie, who is in a Cinderella-like situation, abused and neglected by her parents because she has red hair and is considered ugly. (I still don't get the whole redhead = ugly thing in media but I guess it was a common belief at the time). But they do favor her older sister, Anastasia, who is considered the most beautiful. The day of Marie's birthday, they decided to throw a party for Anastasia instead so she can find a husband. That's when Marie first meets Lord Kyros, the male lead. He immediately fell in love with her and sent a letter to marry her after, but due to a misunderstanding he had mixed the sisters' names up. So, (spoilers for episode 1) Anastasia was sent to Kyros' estate, but on the way there was an accident with the carriage and she was presumed dead. Having already sold Kyros’ betrothal gifts, the baron sent Marie to seduce Kyros instead, and that's where the main plot begins. So it was never about a "sister's ex", since Anastasia and Kyros never met each other, and they weren't even actually engaged xD
  
  Now let's get into the actual review. __Will also contain spoilers__.
  
  __Plot__
  
  The story isn't something we haven't seen before. It’s a Cinderella-esque story, kinda similar to [My Happy Marriage ](https://anilist.co/anime/147103/My-Happy-Marriage/)in a way. However there are some twists and plot points that make it more interesting to me. For example, Marie’s sister Anastasia isn’t an evil and spoiled brat like in other similar stories, but is actually a great sister to Marie and always cared for her. It took me by surprise when she “died”, but I did suspect that she would somehow fake her death, although the reveal happened towards the end of the anime. 
  Also, the mother having red hair definitely caught me off guard, altough it makes sense. Obviously doesn't justify her behavior, as well as the father's, but at least there was some explanation to why they were so evil.
  
  __Main characters / romance__
  
  Marie has had really low self esteem, she thinks she’s ugly and not worthy of love, due to her parents’ treatment towards her. Her struggling to gain confidence and self love is a main plot point of the anime, and I liked seeing her going from an insecure girl to someone that can finally stand up for herself. Kyros of course played a big role on that. He immediately saw how beautiful she is inside and out when he first met her and never gave up trying to boost her confidence, even when she was at her lowest. I really liked him as the male lead, he was charming, adorable and funny. I’m kinda tired of the nonchalant male MCs so I really appreciated that. 
  Their relationship was also so sweet and actually had PROGRESS. So many romance anime tend to be really slow in terms of the relationship between the characters developing, so I was really satisfied with how this one handled it. There were so many adorable and swoon-worthy moments between these two and they had great chemistry. There were also no love triangles or harems which was such a relief since I hate those.
  My one complaint is that their relationship needed a bit better communication in some scenes, especially in episode 10, when Marie realized Anastasia is alive. She went back to thinking she’s not as worthy as her sister, and feeling guilty that she “replaced” her and enjoying her life that way. I get that, but she did not need to freaking leave because of that! And whyyy did Kyros let her? Yes he wanted to respect her decision and he was afraid to hurt her, but he was willing to let her go back to her abusive parents?? This scene seemed pretty dumb to me but at least the whole thing got resolved within like 5 minutes, I was so relieved that this drama didn’t last longer.. 
  
  __Side characters__
  
  I loved this cast, all the (good) characters were likable! But the best one of all was Mio. She’s an icon. Super supportive, smart and funny and she stole almost every scene she was in. I loved her!! Anastasia is also worth mentioning, I loved her ambition to achieve her dream and be free from her parents, who glorified her to a really unhealthy way. I wish we got to see more of the sisterhood with Marie when they reunited. Oh, there was also teasing of a potential relationship with her and the other prince, Luifon, and I’m so in for that, I would love a spin-off with these two!
  
  __Production__
  
  I loved the art and animation. Sadly, many shoujo/josei series don't really get good treatment in their production quality. I'm glad this was not the case here, even though the animation wasn't outstanding or anything, it was fluid and really pretty, as well as the art style. The soundtrack was also really nice, and the atmosphere altogether gave me disney fairytale vibes!

  Overall, to me this was a great anime. The beautiful atmosphere, charming characters and Marie and Kyro’s adorable relationship certified it as one of my favorite romance anime. Definitely the most underrated of the year. Especially if you like shoujo/josei romance fantasies (with romance being the bigger focus) this is a must watch imo!
