68/100When Spewing Random BS Kinda WorksContinue on AniListMy Review of "Detectives These Days Are Crazy!"
“Random Bullshit Go!”
____Story____ Although this anime is episodic (meaning there’s not really a concise storyline), there are a few things that stay consistent throughout the episodes. Nagumo Keiichirou is a middle-aged detective who’s running a struggling detective agency due to his inability to catch up with the times and his health issues. Luckily for him, a high school girl named Mashiro shows up to help him. Unfortunately, Mashiro is a very sporadic and random girl who continuously surprises Nagumo every episode. She's both a blessing and a curse to Nagumo, but they must work together to get their detective agency back up from the gutters and profit.

____Characters____ Keiichirou Nagumo is a middle-aged detective with chronic back problems. He’s serious for the most part. His methods for problem-solving and doing detective work are very outdated, not knowing how to use lots of common modern technologies. Luckily, Mashiro’s mostly the opposite of him. She’s very energetic and random, being able to do lots of things that someone like her shouldn’t be able to do. She’s able to store lots, and I mean LOTS, of stuff in her chest, which ends up being both convenient and inconvenient in certain situations of the anime.

____The Good____ This anime has some funny moments, which should be expected in a comedy anime. I think the randomness of this anime has its quirks, which kept me interested throughout the episodes because I couldn’t tell what Mashiro or any of the characters would do next. Not to mention that most of the characters are easy to like because of how they’re presented, which I appreciated. I know some people will complain about certain characters having weird personalities, but I think that the anime handled these characters well, especially since they are labeled as “minor characters.” Not to mention that this anime had a few references I understood that just made this show even funnier than it was.

____The Bad____ Now, with an anime like this, not everyone’s going to appreciate the sort of humor that this anime takes. I did mention that the randomness of this anime has its quirks in the Good section of this review, but it also does have its negatives. There were a lot of scenes that felt thrown in unnecessarily that just confused me. This may be because I don’t know what the anime is referencing since there are a lot of references in this show, but if someone else who doesn’t understand these references watches the show, they may end up feeling the same thing. Sometimes too much randomness is too much, which ends up being the problem with anime that focus more on slapstick and random comedy over storylines.

____The Downright Ugly____ I did find some of Mashiro’s expressions ugly, but that’s all I could put here.

____Is It Worth The Watch?____ If you’re looking for an above average comedy that chooses humor over plot, this is worth the watch. It definitely can be a bit too much at times, but there are moments that do give me a couple chuckles. I think the more references you’ll understand, the more you’ll enjoy this show.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. If you enjoyed this review, I would greatly appreciate a follow too! ^^

80/100Spoiler-free review of Mattaku Saikin. When nonsense can be really funny.Continue on AniList════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Considerations ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ ● This is a spoiler-free review. ● 80+ in my rating means very good. ● I watched this work with a friend, so I assume that my enjoyment was better since we actually joked about the anime during the episodes. ● I've added one of the anime soundtracks(ED) to the sound section. If you wish, scroll down, start it, and use it as your background music while you read. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Story ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The story revolves around a detective who was a celebrated genius in high school but is now old, broke, and at a dead end. His mundane life is upended when a high school girl insists on becoming his apprentice, kicking off a series of bizarre cases. The story itself is okay; it's a fitting setup for a comedy anime but offers nothing that will keep you deeply invested in an overarching plot. Most of the anime is episodic, with each case being crazy and disconnected from reality. Despite this, I found myself laughing out loud several times. While most of the individual cases are decent and a few are genuinely hilarious, I can only recall one that was truly bad and random. It's important to note that this was an exception, as the cases, despite their absurdity, are generally well-rounded and follow their own strange logic. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Art ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Considering this was a niche anime that I assume didn't have a massive budget, the art direction is incredible and non-ironically the strongest point of the show. The animation team did a fantastic job of using the visuals as a primary tool for comedy.
They frequently change the art style to land a joke, shifting from the standard anime look to exaggerated caricatures or chibi forms in an instant. The show is also filled with visual references to other anime, like Dragon Ball, which adds another layer of humor.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Characters ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ There are not a lot of characters in this work, focusing mainly on the detective, his assistant, another rival detective duo, and a few side characters. This small cast works well, as their main purpose is to provide comedic relief, and they do so effectively. There's no real lack in this department because the characters serve their comedic roles perfectly.
The main character, Nagumo, is okay. He is often overruled and overshadowed by his high school assistant, Mashiro, who is the main comedy trigger of the anime. She's strong like an ape and has the absurd ability to store anything in her bra. With that said, Nagumo has his moments, especially with the relatable jokes about his age, like his back hurting or his general weariness with the world.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
The Sound
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
There's nothing too crazy in this department. The overall soundtrack was okay, effectively supporting the comedic scenes without being particularly memorable. Personally, I didn't like the opening theme very much, but the ending was enjoyable. It's a serviceable soundtrack that is neither terrible nor great.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
Conclusion
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
If you're like me, you skip everything and read only the conclusion because you don't want to get spoiled with other themes. So I will try to be brief on this point:
Try it.This is a good anime to watch if you're looking for something to just turn off your brain and enjoy some comedy non-sense. The story isn't deep and the characters are simple, but the visual gags are creative and the absurd humor often lands. You have to be in that kind of vibe to really appreciate it, but if you are, it’s a fun and lighthearted watch.

83/100The title is to be taken literallyContinue on AniListThe title Detective These Days Are Crazy! says it all, since the series parodies the detective genre and its most famous representative.
So if you want to see a serious crime hunt, forget about this anime and don't bother reading this review, because if there's one thing this anime isn't, it's serious!
In every episode, there is at least one “WTF am I watching right now” moment. It starts with the opening and doesn't end until the ending. I don't know why, but it's been a long time since I've watched an anime from the first to the last second without skipping anything. The music, the animations, everything fascinated me in a weird way.
The plot centers on Keiichirō Nagumo, a private detective who was very successful in his youth but has since aged poorly physically. In the first episode, he meets high school student Mashiro. Her dream is to become a detective herself after school, and she is willing to give it her all to achieve this goal. Consequently, she promptly becomes Nagumo's new assistant, whether he likes it or not.
At this point, I would like to briefly emphasize that despite his slapstick moments, Nagumo takes his cases seriously and solves them with detective instincts and keen powers of observation. Although he is unsuccessful as a professional private detective, this is not due to his abilities. He is actually very talented and competent in his role as a private detective.
The series is episodic in nature. The individual episodes are usually divided into smaller cases. New and minor characters appear regularly throughout the series. A few were even hidden as Easter eggs in the last episode. However, there is no overarching plot, apart from the constant threat of termination by the landlord.
The series mainly carries itself through its situational comedy. When Nagumo is overwhelmed by technology and the world of the 21st century, or Mashiro exaggerates with her superhuman powers. As befits a parody, clichés are taken to the extreme and tropes of the genre are dragged through the mud.
There are, of course, references to other series as well. Episode 4, “Murder at the Mansion of Screams” is clearly a parody of Detective Conan and bears many similarities to its two-part episode “Mountain Villa Bandaged Man Murder Case”, pointing out the weaknesses of our beloved, shrunken detective. So if you feel like switching off your brain and exercising your laugh muscles, the series Detectives these Days are crazy! is definitely my insider tip for you. I can highly recommend this anime. It's best to watch it with friends so you can shake your heads together at the nonsense.
