Ryou is delighted to be reincarnated into the fantastical world of Phi, where he thinks he’ll get to live a quiet life learning to use his newfound water magic. Going with the flow here, however, means something very different. Ryou is immediately pitted against the wild lands he winds up in and the slew of deadly monsters that call the remote subcontinent home. You’d think he’d forget about taking it easy when he’s stuck fighting for his life, but lucky for Ryou, he’s naturally optimistic, clever, and blessed with the hidden “Eternal Youth” trait. Twenty years pass in the blink of an eye, and each encounter along the way pushes him one step closer to the pinnacle of human magic. Little does he realize that’s only the opening chapter of his tale. A fateful meeting soon thrusts Ryou to the forefront of history, forever changing the course of his life... Thus begins the adventures of the strongest water magician the world has ever seen—who also likes to do things at his own pace!

73/100Calm, Fun, and Fluid like a Stream of WaterContinue on AniListMy Review of "The Water Magician"!
How powerful can you be with water powers? Apparently, quite a lot.
____Story____ Ryou is reincarnated with the ability to use water magic. His goal was to live in peace and take his new life easy. Unfortunately, he has a couple of encounters with unfamiliar faces that lead him out of this peaceful life and give him an adventure that comes with its own challenges. As Ryou continues to learn water magic, he also must balance this with his social life with others.

____Characters____ Ryou is a bright, optimistic, and clever kid. He’s blessed with an Eternal Youth trait that slows down his aging, leaving him looking young for his age. Later in the anime, he meets Abel, the leader of a party full of charisma and friendliness. Ryou also later meets Sara, an intelligent elf that takes a bit of interest in Ryou’s skill and knowledge.

____The Good____ This anime was quite relaxing. It felt like this anime wasn’t too focused on action and prioritized aesthetics and storylines more. It’s nice to watch a show like this after watching a bunch of action-packed anime because it really does slow things down, but not to the point where it feels like anything is taking forever to be completed. The characters were fun for who they were. I think that the way this shows powerscales the ability of water really shows the potential for water skills. Initially, I didn’t think that the power of water would be the most effective in combat, but this show really shows the possibilities on how overpowered water can be. Not every show needs to be this whole emotional masterpiece. Sometimes, it’s nice to just have some relaxing good anime to watch every now and then like The Water Magician.

____The Bad____ This is a small complaint, but I think there were a few moments in the anime that did lack some animation. I don’t think it was as bad as many other lowly animated shows, but it was still noticeable when it was present, which felt awkward. Another minor complaint I had is about the finale. I wish that the fight between Ryou and the Inferno Magician lasted longer. There was lots of potential for that fight, but I guess the show needed a happy ending.

____The Downright Ugly____ Nothing downright ugly about this anime.

____Is It Worth The Watch?____ If you’re looking for a good, relaxing anime, I’d say that The Water Magician is worth checking out. It won’t be anything that’ll surprise you or stand out a lot, but it’s a good show nonetheless.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. If you enjoyed this review, I would greatly appreciate a follow too! ^^

20/100The best parts of the series are the world building and politics, the MC is basically non-existentContinue on AniListI feel like this series had a really solid start, but failed to carry the momentum once the MC got comfortable in the city. There was barely any combat, and multiple massive buildups that didn't lead to anything more that a few minutes of the MC showing off before things either ended or the fight was cut short. Seriously, the final fight had THREE EPISODES of buildup, a big introduction to the character the MC would be fighting, HALF AN EPISODE dedicated JUST to this new character's backstory... all for roughly FOUR MINUTES of slow, predictable combat where nothing of actual note happened.
It says a lot when the best parts of the series (and most of the run time btw) doesn't include the titular character. What's there is good; great world building, excellent politics, it feels like a living breathing world... but It's not about The Water Magician. In fact, I and many others would argue he's the worst part of this show. He shows up, says something stupid, and disappears unless he has a few minutes of combat. If I wasn't so upset at how poorly written he is, he'd be a completely forgettable background character.
Our actual MC is Abel, the hero to a small city that washed up on the north shore of his home continent after getting shipwrecked. He's recovered by a mysterious and incredibly powerful magic user that lives somewhere previously thought to be uninhabitable, and manages to convince this mage to join him on his journey home over a dangerous stretch of mountains. They're attacked by monsters more than a few times, and after observing this mage's inhuman power, Abel does his best to ensure the mage is content living in our hero's city to ensure the kingdom has a nuke in their pocket should they ever find themselves at war.
When Abel moves, the story moves. When something important happens, it's either because Abel made it happen or he is called to resolve it. Everyone loves him, everyone reveres his name, he's called upon for basically every major incident the city faces, and the guild master nearly has a panic attack when he doesn't arrive home since his death would mean mass despair for the city's adventurers. Abel is the one to stop his bone headed friend from plunging the world into war over the fact his buddies got the worlds tiniest cuts in non-vital areas. It's only when Abel can't handle things that Tuxedo Mask... I mean the Water Magician appears to save the day before saying something dumb and then proceeding to not appear until someone remembers the title of the anime. Just change the name to "Abel the Hero" or something more generic, because The Water Magician is a glass half empty.
